Indiana Dunes National Park is right along about 15 miles of the southern shore of Lake Michigan and has a lot to offer. The park has lots of rare species of birds and it has places to fly a kite. The national park has 15,000 acres to explore. If you love hiking there are over 50 miles of trails over the rugged dunes, wetlands, prairies, and rivers, and some peaceful forests. Whether you visit during the summer or winter there will be something for you to do. Enjoy swimming and sunbathing in the summer. In the winter there are options to go cross- country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. If you enjoy fall you will love the changing leaves and beautiful colors September through October. Camping and fishing are also very popular things to do at the Indiana Dunes.
The park is open from 6 AM to 11 PM Monday through Saturday unless otherwise posted. The visitors center is open every day except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Years Day. Standard business hours for the visitors center is Monday to Sunday 8:30 AM to 4:40 PM again with the exception of major holidays. If you enter through West Beach Entrance there is an entrance fee of $6 per car per day for those that do not have an annual pass.
